Stripe Gateway
Stripe is an external gateway. You connect your own Stripe account to PaymentsAI, and processing is handled entirely by Stripe.
Fees on this gateway:
PaymentsAI charges a 1% platform fee per transaction for Stripe, on top of Stripe's own transaction fees. See Pricing and Fees.
Setup
- In the PaymentsAI dashboard, click Gateways in the top navigation.
- Under Other Gateways, click Connect Stripe.
- A new browser tab opens prompting you to log in to your Stripe account.
- Enter your email to begin authentication.
- Select an existing Stripe account or create a new one.
- You are returned to PaymentsAI with a Successfully connected status.
Stripe account errors:
If you encounter any errors with your Stripe account during connection, contact Stripe Support. The issue resides on the Stripe side, not PaymentsAI.
India merchants
Since July 28, 2021, all international card payments to India-based merchants must go through 3D Secure (3DS) authentication. This regulation applies to international payments in non-INR currencies from non-Indian cardholders.
To avoid declines, India-based merchants must take the following steps:
- Enable 3DS authentication in their Stripe configuration.
- Capture the customer's billing details for every international transaction, including:
- Buyer's name
- Billing address
Without these details, transactions are likely to be declined. See How to Increase Approval Rate for further billing-field guidance.
Statement descriptor
The card statement descriptor, which is the company name your customer sees on their card statement, must not exceed 22 characters. The same limit applies to the PaymentsAI Gateway. See the Business Decision Matrix for general descriptor guidance.
Tip (keeping the descriptor you already set in Stripe):
If you want to keep using the descriptor already configured in your Stripe account, leave the descriptor field empty in the Stripe configuration inside PaymentsAI. Filling it in here overrides the Stripe-side setting.
Supported payment methods and regions
The payment methods and regions available through this gateway match whatever is enabled on your own Stripe account. PaymentsAI does not maintain a separate list; it passes transactions through to Stripe, and Stripe applies its own coverage rules.
For the canonical lists, see Stripe's own documentation:
- Supported payment methods (overview): Every payment method Stripe offers (cards, wallets, bank redirects, BNPL, vouchers).
- Payment method support by country and currency: Detailed tables of which method works where.
To enable or disable a method for your account, use the Payment methods section of the Stripe Dashboard.
